Michael Anthony Thomas, age 54, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at his residence in Carson, California. He was born September 1, 1958 in New York, New York to Raymond Thomas Sr. and Vivian Navarre. Mike grew up in New York, New York. He graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in Bronx, New York in 1976. After high school, Michael attended Amherst College at Amherst Massachusetts where he played football and received a BA degree in Economics in 1981. He also attended the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management where he received an MBA in 1986. Michael began his professional life at AMC Theaters where he worked for about 10 years at various levels in theatre management in Los Angeles, California market. He subsequently changed he career to retail sales and worked at SEARS for 11 years. Michael was Catholic and attended St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. Michael could often be seen ministering to the needs of the homeless. Mike was an avid fan of the New York Giants football team, and a Lakers' basketball fan when they had winning seasons. He would often relax to melodic sounds of Jazz from John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Chick Corea. At the club, he could be seen dancing to rap and R&B. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr. and Vivian Thomas. Michael is survived by his son, Brandon of Los Angeles, CA; three siblings: Cecile (Jesse) Johnson of Bronx, NY, Anne Thomas of New York, NY and Raymond (Deloris) Thomas, Jr. of Rydal, PA; his nieces and nephews: Erica Johnson, Valeria Johnson, Brendan Thomas, Eric Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, and Danielle Thomas; his grand-nieces and grand-nephew: Amber, Jadzia, James, and Zoe; his uncle Joseph Thomas of New York, NY and cousin Michelle McKay of New York, NY and a host of other cousins and friends, including Alvin Maxwell. Memorial services will be held both in Los Angeles, CA and in New York, NY. The services in Los Angeles area will be at Holy Cross Mortuary and Cemetery, 5835 Slauson Avenue, Culver City, CA in the Mortuary Chapel at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2013. The service in New York will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 211 West 141st St., New York, NY at 10:00 am on Monday, May 6, 2013. Burial will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, NY.
